A Time to Build

About the Time to Build Campaign

Chosen by God to do this and the work is huge – this is not just a place for people to meet each other, but a house for God to meet us"
1 Chronicles 29:1

In July 2009 after 6 years of preparation and worshipping in a temporary facility, the building of the Gracepoint church began. The Lonehill Methodist Church congregation had outgrown its premises at the Crawford School and the Time to Build had come. The Time to Build Capital Campaign launched in May 2008 and gave the church community an opportunity to get involved in the new building by giving a sacrificial financial commitment to the church and to pray for the building of the church. It began with a six week sermon series on Faith, Service, Purpose, Sacrifice, Commitment and Gratitude. Many families and individuals gave faithfully and generously and the great work of building a church to honour the God we worship could begin.

In April 2009, the congregation gathered for the Breaking Ground Ceremony on the piece of land where we would one day build. Young and old celebrated the gift of the land and the vision to build a church. It was our hope and prayer that we would meet in a year's time to celebrate the opening of the church building.

The journey was long and difficult, but it was a season of boldness, courage and perseverance and as Moses pressed on with the Israelites to the promised land, we believed that we too would worship on our own promised land. November 2009, we had a Site visit and the congregation gathered to see the progress of the building.

On Ash Wednesday in February 2010 the community met again on the site, this time in the unfinished foyer of the new church. It was an incredible moment and as we reflected on the significance of entering into the time of lent, it was our prayer that this church would be a place where others could also be to be touched by the Holy Spirit and discover the saving grace and love of Jesus Christ.

Our vision was that the new church would never just be a building but a tool that unlocks mission touching the lives of the lost, hurting and marginalised. We pray it is a Sanctuary of love and acceptance that will loose the chains of injustice and extend beyond the borders of our country.

Over 150 builders are busy on site each day. We presented each builder with a bible in their own language and once a week on a Thursday Homegroups and individuals have sponsored and helped serve lunch for every builder on site since the building began last year. Their generosity and joy has been a source of inspiration and encouragement to every person building the church. The contractor and its building team have worked tirelessly and the result is outstanding.

The 7 June 2010 is the date scheduled for the first service in the new Sanctuary. We invite you to be a part of this amazing milestone in the life of the Gracepoint Church.

The building campaign continues this year and we are so grateful to those who continue to generously give. It is not too late to get involved in giving. Should you be interested please click here...
